Can a SRAM Masterlink be used with a Shimano chain?
Condensed Answer: A SRAM PowerLink can be used on a Shimano chain as long as both are designed for the same number of speeds. Some people use PowerLinks intentionally for the convenience that they offer.
Can I use a quick link on a Shimano chain?
Yes 10 speed specific quick links are often used with 10 speed Shimano chains.
Can I use KMC master link on Shimano chain?
IS KMC MISSING LINK COMPATIBLE WITH SHIMANO CHAIN, SRAM CHAIN, OR CAMPY CHAIN? Yes, KMC constructs Missing Link I, II, 9, and 10 for 7.3mm, 7.1mm, 6.6mm, and 5.9mm respectively; all Missing Links are compatible with Sram, Shimano, and Campy equivalent chains.
Do KMC quick links work with Shimano chains?
Yes, ime they all work. I even carry a few SRAM links with me even though I run shimano chains (9&10 speed). There are different sizes for different speed systems. I've been using KMC reusable missing links with a 9 speed Shimano drivetrain (XT chain) for a year now.

Can I use a SRAM quick link on a KMC chain?

Can you use quick links on any chain?
Mixing and matching quick links
Those with older eight or nine-speed chains should find success with using KMC, SRAM or Wippermann links on just about any chain of the same speed. Ten-speed users can also openly mix and match between 10-speed chain manufacturers and 10-speed quick links.
Can you use a 11 speed chain link on a 12 speed chain?
The chainring on a 1x system will only "see" the internal of the chain, so yes, a 11 speed chain will work fine with a 12 speed chainring (that's usually 11/12sp chainring).
Can you use Shimano Quicklink on SRAM chain?
Shimano, SRAM and KMC quick links are designed for single use. Once installed, if you open the link to remove and clean the chain, for example, you should install a brand new quick link. That's because the act of locking these quick links removes material weakening them.
Can you reuse a Shimano chain pin?
Shimano says to not re-use quick links: “Do not reuse a QUICK-LINK that has been removed. If the QUICK-LINK is reused, there is a risk that it will loosen and become detached, which may result in an accident.” I think they are overly cautious there.
Can you use a 11 speed quick link on a 10 speed chain?
Since the 11 speed chain is narrower, the connection pin will be narrower than for a 10 speed. While it might work, I certainly wouldn't recommend it. What you can do is use a SRAM powerlock designed for 10 speed applications. 10 speed is powerLOCK, not powerLINK.
Can I use a 10 speed link on an 11 speed chain?
Condensed Answer: An 11-speed chain is narrower than a 10-speed chain and can therefore be combined with a 10-speed cassette.
Do quick links wear out?
Do quick links wear out ('stretch')?
Yes but the stretch on one link is virtually immeasurable. They can be reused for years. I'm still using 10-12 year old powerlinks without any negative effects. If you replace a reusable powerlink every time you change your chain, please send me your old ones.
Do all bike chains have a master link?
Not all bikes have these links. They are most likely to be found on BMX bikes, single speed bikes or three-speed town bikes with internal gears. The more sprockets a bicycle has on its rear cassette, the narrower the chain must be and therefore the less room there is for this extra-wide master link.
How many times can you use a Shimano quick link?
Shimano says their quick links are single use only. I've opened and reused one of mine twice. I also carry an old one for emergencies.
Are KMC and SRAM chains interchangeable?
KMC 12-Speed Chains
KMC makes an ultra-light chain that is compatible with SRAM Eagle 12 mountain drivetrains, Campagnolo 12 road versions, and Shimano's 12-speed mountain groups.
Are 11 speed and 12-speed chains the same?
Since 12-speed chains are narrower than 11-speed chains, a 12-speed model needs slightly more time to climb the next cog/gear. Thus, in some situations, shifting could feel a bit non-responsive. Nonetheless, there are no guarantees that the rider will be able to perceive the delay.
Are SRAM Quick Links reusable?
SRAM's 10 and 11-speed master links are called PowerLocks and are not to be reused. According to SRAM, the ridge that joins the two plates of the PowerLock together can be damaged when unlocking it, increasing the risk of failure if reused.

Can you reinstall a chain pin?
Take the chain apart at the next link down from where you lost the pin (being more careful this time) and then take two half-links from the cutoff and install them.
